Arts Education in the News: Former basketball coach is catalyst for new arts center
Principal William Skilling, who had never attended a school arts performance, drew on his coaching skills to spearhead a drive for an arts center at a new high school in Byron Center, Mich. He persuaded the school board and private sponsors to double the arts faculty and build a state-of-the-art theater that hosts productions for students and community members.
